Marion, Oh.: Marion County Municipal (MNN)
- If you haven't tried sailplanes, you must come here. It must be
the cheapest flying in the world, $12.50/hr -this includes the tow and
an instructor!! Besides gliders, they have flight training in: a Super
Cub, a Stearman, and a T6 Texan. If you are lucky you might catch an aerobatics
practice or even see Ken Hadden doing aerobatics in his glider! Marion
is also the home of MERFI, an EAA Fly-in! It's the first
weekend after "Labor Day", don't miss this one!
Middle Bass Island, Oh.: Put-In-Bay (OH30)
- Island hopping at its best. Stay for a day, bicycle, eat, and
be entertained. A $1 bus ride will take you into town. If you spend the
night you can enjoy the wineries (Don't drink
and fly! You might hit me!!)
Kelly's Island, Oh. (89D):
This one is a lot like Put-In-Bay, but much more laid back. It is
also harder to get around, there isn't always transportation available.
Sandusky, Oh.: Griffing-Sandusky (SKY): Cedar Point amusement park is only 3
miles away and transportation is available. They operate a shuttle between
the park and airport.
Lancaster, Oh.: Fairfield County (LHQ)
: Great place for sky-diving (who would want to jump out of a perfectly
good airplane?), they have a tandem free-fall if you choose to be daring.
Caldwell, Oh.: Noble
County (I10)
- This is a great location to fish and camp. As a child I spent
many summers here. I loved to sit on the shore and fish while watching
airplanes come over the lake and land. The runway is in the middle of a
horseshoe shaped lake.
Radnor, Oh.: Packer Field (OH32)
- Stop in and say "Hi!" to Dick Packer. You never know what
he will be rebuilding. You can also see Dick at MERFI, he opens the annual
fly-in at Marion by dropping a parachutist out of his Stearman. (usually
inverted!)
